ChaShaK - Our Parent Organization

In the year 2002, in a small residential apartment in Mumbai 17 children began gathering in afterschool hours and long vacations. Soon the space turned into a small learning laboratory driven by fun, freedom, collaboration & knowledge. The children explored non academic subjects, aimed to bring all to the same level than striving for ranks, witnessed existence of under-privileged class, appreciated each religion, celebrated each season and participated in hands-on work. Supriya, the facilitator to this group was recognized as a thought leader to offer alternative means and way to educate children. In one of the interviews Supriya quoted, “I simply tried to follow legacy of my father whose life was an example of knowledge, equality and grace.”

Later when Malvika & Radha left formal schooling for “Learning for Life; Not for Marks”, their homeschool was fondly named as ChaShaK behind the name of their grandfather, CHAndrakant SHAnkar Kawatkar.

“When our daughter was admitted to the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology without appearing for board exams, our tiny homeschool ChaShaK earned overnight fame.”, says Supriya.

Children wanted to enrol in ChaShaK. Families wanted to seek guidance to educate their own children in ChaShaK way. Many institutions wanted to collaborate with ChaShaK. ChaShaK was just a baby though, not at all prepared to serve to the needs & concerns of thousands who needed help.

It is only in 2021, when Supriya is set on a mission to help everyone who wants to claim their freedom and ownership for meaningful education, ChaShaK, a humble homeschool is renamed as ChaShaK Foundation, a non-profit organization that is built on the foundation of Trust, Integrity & Inclusion.

The ChaShaK Foundation is extending support to all parents through its first project SWASHIKSHAN – Open Learner’s Collective

The project will provide guidance and support to those who wish to pursue LEARNING FOR LIF; NOT FOR MARKS
